I found this posted on another board I visit late Saturday evening. I scrambled around & found the ingredients in time to make them with the children. I am so glad I did. My kid's LOVED it! [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I know it's a little late to make them for this Easter, but thought I would share the recipe anyhow.

Resurrection Cookies
1 cup whole pecans
1 teaspoon vinegar
3 egg whites
Pinch of salt
1 cup granulated sugar
Zip-lock plastic bag
Wooden spoon
Tape
Bible

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Place pecans in zip-lock bag and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested he was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3. Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11. Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.

So far, the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalms 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah1:18 and John 3:1-3. Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matthew 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matt. 27:65-66.

GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Resurrection morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Resurrection day Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matthew 28:1-9.

HE HAS RISEN!

Really neat! Thanks for sharing this! I'll run off a copy and put it in my Easter Folder for next year.

I made cookies using a very similar recipe with my mentor for Church last Sunday. Those cookies are very delicious, and addicting, lol!

AGfanatic,

My kid's turned up their noses at the cookies due to the pecans, then dd decided to taste just a little piece. She LOVES [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img] them & I agree that they can be addicting. I can't have caffeine, aspirin or even a soft drink , so I relish my sweets. These are good, even though they have no chocolate. I also dislike any kinds of nuts, and I thought I wouldn't like the cookies because of the pecans. When I had the cookies, the egg whites and sugar completely covered up the taste of the pecans!

What a sweet idea!

Thank you for sharing it, though I don't think we will wait until next Easter. It sounds like the perfect ending for a bible study and a good reminder for any time of the year. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Of course I won't mind eating the results either. lol
Thanks again!!!

Thank you, THank you, THANK you! We did this on a Mission Retrete (when I was a teenager) and I have had fond memories of it ever since, but never had the recipe. Now, I finally have a copy for myself!
Thanks!
