I emailed AG about a week ago about the changes to Fun For Girls and the change from American Girls Collection to Historical Characters. Here's what they said:

Dear American Girl Fan,

We're delighted that you enjoy our games on Fun For Girls! We
appreciate your comments, and we'll keep them in mind for the future.

The decision to change the name of the American Girls Collection was
made to help new girls to understand our dolls.

The music files were not supposed to be removed, and we plan to
restore them to the historical character home pages in the future.
This occurred accidentally when those pages were worked on.

To find all of our games and quizzes, please click on our Site Map
(at the lower edge of the Fun For Girls page), and scroll down to
click on a game or a quiz. Come play Net Pets, Kit's Railway
Adventure, Samantha's Scavenger Hunt, Freewheeling Friends, American
Girl Paper Dolls, Picture Pieces, and Kaya's Mountain Escape!

Send our free animated e-cards to your friends and family in E-Card
Central! We're always working on more fun features for you!

????? What the heck is that supposed to mean???

It's still good news that it was just a mistake that the music is gone and they'll put it back.
Here's my original message:

You wrote us: Hello. I have noticed that you have made many changes
to the Fun For Girls part if the site. It will be hard to get used
to, but I'm growing to like some of the changes. It seems that you
have made it official the the American Girls Collection which in my
opinion sounds very classy to just Historical Characters. I disagree
with this decision because the American Girls Collection used to be
the center of American Girl and now it seems like you feel they are
not important anymore. I also see that you have taken the music off
of the individual girls' pages. I am very sad because of this because
I loved the music and felt it gave girls a feel of what the music was
like in her time. Why did you take it off? I hope you consider my
opinions and use them when making future changes. I'm sure many other
girls feel the same way. Thank you.

Wow, I didn't even notice that the girls' music was removed. But at least it's just temporary and will return eventually. (I loved the music too, and I would be very upset if this was a permanent thing.)

I also don't understand their explanation behind changing American Girls Collection to Historical Characters. American Girls Collection was a far better name, IMO.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'm probably in the minority here, but this is one change that I can understand from Mattel's perspective. They are selling history dolls and today dolls, and need to make a distinction. A casual visitor to their site wouldn't get the history conneciton from the name "American Girls Collection." So from that perspective, the change makes good sense.

Glad to hear the music is coming back!

If the name was something like "Historical American Girl Collection" I personally think it wouldn't be too confusing, and would get straight to the point. Just an idea.
