I am a new fan of American girls after receiving two dolls as gifts for my daughters (just like you dolls). I have now bought Elizabeth.
She has American girl on the back of her neck. Is this what she has always been produced with? I was expecting it to say Pleasant company like the other dolls. Any and all explanations of these dolls markings is welcome. Thank you.

The short answer is, ever since Mattel bought out Pleasant Company back in the late 1990's, they have been phasing out the name and replacing it with the name American Girl. Probably because the original company was named after its founder, Pleasant T. Rowland and they wanted to distance themselves from her. Anyway, now it seems that newer dolls USUALLY have American Girl LLC on the back of their neck although there have been reports of recent purchases still having the Pleasant Company stamp.

However, the long answer is more detailed. Since you say you want to know EVERYTHING about American Girl dolls, I'd recommend a few good websites to help you piece the story together

Welcome to the world of AG and this board.

Wickedgood, recommendations for three sites is right on. Check out Meg and Curts first. They are packed with info about Pleasant Company, date dolls came out and what the boxes looked like.

Enjoy.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I thought the name change on the necks was fairly recent, and probably only since they officially changed the name of the company from Pleasant Company to American Girl, which was in 2004?
