Molly's Desk?

I was looking through the catalogue and noticed that there is some sort of hole in Molly's desk. Anyone know it's purpose?

It's an inkwell hole. They were still there when I was in elementary school!! (P.S. that was only like 10-15 years ago!)

Maybe it is to hold pencils in?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ditto! I had a desk like she has in grade school and it had those holes. We used them for holding paint containers or pencils, but our teacher who probably WAS teaching in 1944 (she was close to 80) said they were for inkwells.
