Hi, all,
I am working on a Hogwarts costume but am having no luck finding fabric to make the tie out of. It needs to be a burgandy and gold stripe and I have looked everywhere, i.e. in all the local fabric stores as well as online stores and ebay, my eyes are starting to cross.
Does anyone have fabric like this you would be willing to sell or know where I could get some. Either cotton or a silky fabric would be okay. Thanks in advance.

Can you make it out of gold fabric and either color or applique the burgundy stripes onto it?

You could use gold fabric and attach burgundy ribbon to it. I've seen it done for a bee costume since the seamstress couldn't find black and yellow striped fabric.
I wish you luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks, everyone. I may have to resort to adding my own stripes but I certainly hope not. I will keep looking.

Try fabric paint. With a thin bristled brush you can easily add the gold stripe.
You might also have more luck as it gets further into fall. The holiday fabrics should be out well before Halloween and you are more likely to find burgundy with gold in the holiday fabrics.
Good luck!

Try getting a full sized tie from a kid's costume and using that material. If you shop around you can find one for about $10. The stripes will be a little wide, but if you place your pattern carefully on the fabric, it won't look bad.
