Since we started the For Sale Sticky last month, it seems that word is starting to spread that the American Girl Fans Message Board has created a specific place on our board where we allow sale items to be listed - which would, of course, attract new people who want to sell their wares to a built-in market. And while it is nice to have our own marketplace, that is not the purpose of this board.
To discourage people whose first interest might be selling, we are changing our requirements for selling on our For Sale Sticky. We will now require any member who wants to offer things for sale on our board have at least 50 posts, and be a regularly-contributing member for at least 3 months. Regularly contributing means having at least three posts per week for the month prior to posting any items for sale.
The new rules will go into effect as of today. Those members who posted a list on the Sticky before October 7, 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, who met the previously stated requirements but not the new ones, will be allowed to leave their lists posted till the items are sold or the month ends, whichever comes first. However, anyone wishing to post for sale items after the stated time, must meet the new requirements.
Sincerely,
Your moderating team

There ARE other marketplaces and I believe even boards to sell AG stuff if you don't actually want to talk about the dolls. But by making sure everyone who sells is an active member, we hope to ensure a safer experience for everyone (although of course we can't guarantee the safety of any sale). And we also want to keep to the board's original purpose of discussing AG dolls (with selling items being a secondary benefit).
Thank you for the well-phrased message, Jeanette.

I think that is a wise decision. It does look like we have attracted MANY new members very quickly, (which is not necessarily a bad thing as long as selling is not the only reason they are on the board). Thanks to the mods who are doing a great job of keeping our board transactions, and younger members as safe as possible! I give you

I am pleased to see this new ruling as well. I've been a member here for about 2 yrs and there are so many people I don't recognise anymore.
