Alrighty, I know this is a weird thing to be posting about. But I'm so used to getting those baking soda type packing peanuts in an AG order that I was quite taken aback to find icky old styrofoam ones mixed in there today. Must be new Mattel packing material, and not PM, eh?

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to find out they had to change back to styrofoam. I live in a humid area, and in several orders I got last winter, those biodegradeable peanuts biodegraded before they even got to me, leaving breakables bouncing around in the box unprotected! I have received orders from other companies too with the same problem. They're a great, environmentally sound idea in concept, but they don't hold up in foul weather.

Oh my. I've never had them disintegrate in the box.

I'll have to let Heather know to watch out for them. Her dogs love eating them. EWWWWW!

Cornstarch. At least they used to be cornstarch. AG orders used to come with an info sheet that said they were cornstarch.

I've gotten one order with styrofoam peanuts in the last few months but all the others have been the cornstarch.

They're a lot of fun for crafts. If you lick one end, it will stick to another! You can build all sorts of things! They're technically edible too. My BFF works at a childcare center with 12-18 month olds, and they give them to the babies to play with and gnaw on.

Gosh I hope so.

In our chemistry class in college our professor made us EAT one of these packaging peanuts, to show how great and safe they were. Not cool.

I loved em- just dump them out in the backyard when it was raining and it would disappear.
I lived in a real humid area too, and never had a problem.

I'm sad they switched back to styrofoam.

Thanks for mentioning this!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">My cat likes to eat them, too. I used to not even pay attention when I opened up a box and left it open while I was changing dolls and stuff, cause I knew my cat would be in the box in a matter of minutes, but it didn't matter since they wouldn't hurt her.

My last order was earlier this month, but was quite small (the Kaya book that's on sale, and the Molly aviator outfit), and I don't even think it had peanuts.

I guess I'll have to dispose of the box and peanuts now, before opening things up, to make sure my cat doesn't eat any of the new ones.
