My mom was the exact same way! (in fact you remineded me so much of myself a few years ago I just became a member so I could post a comment.) Like you I was also realy upset because I loved to collect american girl dolls. My mom wanted me to package up all my doll stop playing or even displaying them and not buy any more AG stuff. I felt like my mom was ashamed of me, even more so after she died to breast cancer less than a year or two later. My dad accually was the one who understood me and told me later that my mom liked my doll collection and thought they were realy neat but was afraid that people at school would make fun of me. I will by in colledge next year but although i rarly "play" with my dolls like i used to i still love to collect them and I dont believe that you can ever be to old for american girl dolls.

My mom is 90 and just loves the Kirsten we got her 5 years ago! My biggest problem is that we're running out of "stuff" to buy for her!
