Question

Lol-sounds funny-huh? Anyway-I have Jess for my oldest daughter put away-and I did not get her travel accessories. The reason is-her sister is a year younger and will get AGOT #25 at the same time. I know that the younger one would go crazy over Toshi-and would be very jealous over the fluffy green friend that holds on. They both already have Coconut and Licorice-and I think there would also be issues with the camera and water bottle. So-I'm tossing around the idea of getting them both Jess accessories for their dolls and maybe having Toshi and Poshi-lol. What do you think? Should I skip them all together-or get them each a set? Sigh-I hate decisions. Thanks for listening.

If you actually want to buy the set for both girls, I say go for it! Nothing wrong with buying accessories for another girl, IMO; I've seen a lot of dolls wearing Jess's Meet Outfit, and as far as I know, lightning has neither struck the girls, nor the dolls.

(I'm not a big enabler, though; if you don't think either of your girls need accessories, you can skip them altogether. )

I know there are a lot of purists on the board. However, I think that if you buy stuff for a limited edition doll and use them for another TODAY doll or other limited edition doll, I think that's OK. The important thing is that their items stay true to the time period of the doll. At least for an adult collector. For a child, the child should be able to do what she pleases and use her own imagination regardless of any rules.

That's why I think Samantha and Nellie should be able to share things(especially since they're sisters!), as well as Felicity and Elizabeth. I even think that Molly(and Emily when released) can share some things with Kit, and even Kirsten can share a couple of things depending on what they are with Addy. I think as an adult that if the time periods stay consistent, mixing and matching a little is OK depending on what it is.

Now, I don't agree with Molly wearing Felicity's things or Samantha wearing Kaya's things because the time periods are too far apart and a 1940s girl in a colonial gown doesn't look appropriate. The exception is Halloween, Purim and doll plays/performances, where costumes are worn so anything goes in that case, I think.

I would buy them both one. Toshi is so cute and my twins just love them! We only bought one set, but they have a few other animals to play with, but since my girls are twins they like differ things.

It all depends what time period and personalities you've given the dolls. I think of Kaya and Josefina in the same time period, Kaya wears Josefina's clothing sometimes.

Yay-thanks guys-I'll get them both one. I have a return order here-so I was trying to decide if I should "exchange" for new stuff before I boxed it up. I'm definitely keeping both girls as modern-and they will be sharing clothes between them-but accessories I find they need their own of-particularly animals. I think I'd really regret not getting Jess's accessories once they sold out. I wasn't planning on it-until I was showing my daughter her in the catalog today-and asking what she thought of her (she hasn't seen her yet) and she went the most crazy over the "dollie water" in her hand. Kids are so cute. Thanks for listening-you guys are the best-I think my husband is really glad I've found this board-so he doesn't have to pretend he's listening to my dollie talk anymore. Definitely get them for both! I am not a purist (though I tend to keep my historicals in period most of the time) and I am absolutely not a purist when it comes to dolls for kids-- they should enjoy their dolls as much as they can. We have two of a lot of things around here-- just makes life easier when you have two kids.

If your DD would like them, get them!

I'm have a pair of mini Treelos, so I didn't get Jess's accessories. I think Toshi is adorable though, and you couldn't possibly have too many Toshis.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Why are kids allowed to be creative and not adults? LOL My opinion is that "I bought the dolls, I bought the clothes, they are mine and I will dress them however I want."

If Addy wants to wear jeans and a tee, she should be able to. I think some of the cutest outfits are on dolls they weren't intended for. Like Kaya in the Starflower in someone's sig (sorry I forgot who)

They are TOYS. They don't have to be stuck in one time period. No offense intended to purists, but I just don't get it.

I should have added in my opinion. But you're right Sara, anyone-girl or grown-up who spends the $ on any doll should be able to do what they want. Even in IMAGINE mag, all of Julia's pics have shown historic dolls in modern clothes.

I guess I was just trying to answer the question on behalf of someone who wanted to stay authentic to a time period. My choice is to keep my dolls with their time, but that is MY CHOICE.

That's what so cool about dolls-you can make them whoever you want them to be, even a boy if you want, and I've seen some great AGs turned in great ABs(American boys).
