Mego was the biggest and greatest toy company of the early 70's. And well, as far as I am concerned, EVER, lol. Star Wars is indeed what killed them, but you have to look at is from their point of view at the time. Looking back, it was a very stupid move to pass on the Star Wars property, but at the time, it was an understandable move on their part. Sci-Fi films weren't doing well, to say the least, and everyone thought Star Wars was going to bomb, even the studios that passed on it and are kicking themselves today. Mego looked at Star Wars as a very risky move, which is very understandable. Mego couldn't read minds any better than anyone else. Kenner took a VERY high gamble at the time, but got the luck of the draw. I would have killed for Mego Star Wars figures, and am still very saddened about Mego's demise. But really, will Mego EVER really die? No way, not as long as us Mego freaks exist! Long live the king!
