Some mobo's allow you to clock the memory down separately. So if you clock the system up and then the memory back down it can work. Otherwise, you can try it, but you may burn out your memory...
I got a Sempron Processor 2400+ (1.6GHZ), PC-2700 Memory (DDR333) and a MSI motherboard capable of up to 3000+ AMD ATHLON XP. I am playing DOOM 3 fine (well, medium quality 800x600).
I want to test to raise the CPU speed up to 2.0GHZ via the BIOS, but according to some sites, all components of the system will also overclock, including memory. Since mine is rated at 333MHZ, can I still do it, or I have to invest in faster memory ? Also, if I go up to 2.0GHZ, do I really need to invest in additional cooling ?

also, that's a pretty sizeable jump in speed, i'd get better cooling for the CPU if i were you...

Well, right know I can't invest more, maybe I will try to raise it to 1.7-1.8GHZ to see what happens.....
But then, here comes the issue with memory. The real operating frequency of a PC-2700 (333) is 166. If I can't clock the memory separatly via the BIOS, I can only O/C if I purchase a faster memory.....don't know if that is what I understood. [img]frown.gif[/img]
