Been a while, but I figure since the next Shield season is being dubbed 5B we'd keep this thread going.

Here are a little article that you might find interesting (I know I did)

TV critics can't wait for 2007.

That's when "The Shield" returns with new episodes on FX. And judging by the season premiere screened here, this relentless tour de force isn't just firing on all 8 cylinders, it's blasting on 12.

The final 10 episodes of the fifth season (starting probably in January, maybe March) focus rivetingly on fallout from the shocking murder of strike team squad member Lem. Actor Kenneth Johnson joined his former castmates today at the "Shield's" Hollywood soundstage, eager to see the first episode after he was offed by a grenade from the hand of fellow renegade cop and close friend Shane (Walton Goggans), who was led to believe Lem had turned on the team. These upcoming episodes were originally thought to be the series' end. But creator Shawn Ryan decided he had more stories to tell, through a final 13 to be shot next year for airing in 2008.

"We wanted to not rush past that crime while we were wrapping up everything else," said Ryan, who's been building meaty storylines for all the supporting characters ? not to mention the eventual resolution of star Michael Chiklis' series-launching shot to the head of a detective spying on his crooked crew.

Forest Whitaker returns as the spooky internal affairs lieutenant who's out to nail Vic, by any means. And those means look to be getting downright lethal by the final scenes of this season premiere. "You can't see the line anymore," the police chief warns Whitaker's obsessed character, deftly echoing the murky attitude of Vic and fellow cops who plunge daily into the cesspool of those mean streets.

Whitaker will appear in the season's first two episodes, at least, Ryan said teasingly. The softspoken creator tries to maintain an air of mystery about a series so consistently electrifying, fans can't decide whether they want to know what's going to happen, so they can brace themselves, or wait to be surprised, so their jaws can drop.

That happens more than a few times in this kick-butt return, which ranges through a hostage crisis at a free clinic, porno store robberies, more Salvadoran gang warfare, even a brawl in the squad room, and one cop's surprisingly suicidal actions. Amazingly, every member of the extended cast gets fine screen time ? even recurring characters like the Salvadoran woman snitch caught in the crossfire between Whitaker and Chiklis ? yet the episode never feels rushed.

All the threads from last season are picked up, too ? Danny's baby (Catherine Dent gets a breathtaking scene with Cathy Cahlin Ryan as Vic's suspicious wife), Claudette's promotion to captain, Vic's promise to "retire" to hang onto his pension. "The Shield" never forgets where it came from, finally plunging strange straightarrow detective Dutch into a call at a house crawling with cats. (Remember his disturbing twist with the stray at his doorstep?) It begins like a bit of comic relief, then does a horrific 180 to become yet another shocker in this masterful episode.
There are also a few additions to the cast:

Lela Loren will play the girlfriend of Guardo Lima (Salvadorans)

Franka Potente will be on the show for three episodes

And possibly the biggest addition to the cast:
Alex O'Loughlin will be the newest member of the Strike Team to replace Lem (or maybe to replace someone else....)

And lastly, here are the episode descriptions that have surfaced so far....

Episode 5.12 - On The Jones: A man is suspected for burning down a methadone clinic. Someone is arrested after claiming he killed Lem. A porn store owner is beaten up in his store, likely for making porn with grandmothers.

Episode 5.13 - Veritas Vos Liberabit: Vic, Shane, and Ronnie, are talking to an old Salvadoran man who used to be the leader of a street gang. Kavanaugh turns up the heat on Vic again, which makes Vic take bigger risks to clear his name. Corrine is involved in this too. Tina shows some signs of progress on the street.

Episode 5.14 - Back to One: The Police Department wants publicity pictures of some of the personnel of the Barn. A garage turns out to be a meth lab and a drug store robbery is investigated. Both cases seem to have a connection. The brother of a suspected copkiller is hauled in for questionning. Dutch deals with a federal agent related to the Salvadorans.

Episode 5.15 - The New Guy: The Strike Team gets a new member called Kevin. Vic is training him. Some ex gang-members are starting a war against other gangs, while they are being hunted down for leaving the gang. There are a lot of murders in the Latino community and Aceveda tries to stop that. A girl is raped. There is a shootout at a pizza joint, and Vic tries to save a man who was shot.

Episode 5.16: A bunch of dead people with false documents are found, possibly as a result of a beef between Mexicans and Salvadorans. Some ex-cops clean out a building filled with a Jamaican dope operation. Young runaway girls are kidnapped and raped, and cops from the Barn investigate.

Episode 5.17 - Chasing Ghosts: Antwon is interrupted during a conjugal visit by another visitor. A city counselman's daughter is murdered. This murdercase is getting bigger and bigger.

Episode 5.18 - Exiled: A Mexican government official is missing and thought to be dead. A boy is shot at an Salvadoran festival. Some Armenians want to harass an Iraqi petrol station owner, to get him to use them as his supplier.

Episode 5.19 - The Wrath of The Math: A woman is stabbed in a store, but she seems a little out of her own surroundings. A boy is brought into the Barn by his dad to tell the cops that he witnessed a crime. A prostitute is robbed by a group of men. Aceveda is meeting with people to help him to further his political career.

Episode 5.20: Members of a crew that committed the 'San Marcos murders' are being rounded up based on intel from snitches and crewmembers who talk to save themselves jailtime. Homeland Security get involved when a port inspector isn't cooperating with a search of an Armenian shipment coming in.
