Bernard "Boom Boom" Geoffrion started his career at the age of 19 (in 1951). He played 14 seasons with the Canadiens, won 6 Stanley Cup, was named rookie of the year, won two Scoring championships and was only the second player (after Maurice Rocket Richard) to score 50 goals in a season and he also invented the slap shot.
His dream was to have his number retired and to have a banner at the ceiling of the Forum next to his father in law (number 7 Howie Morenz).
Last October the Montreal Canadiens announced that they would retire his number 5 during a ceremony prior to March 11 game (tonight)
Well Bernard Geoffrion died this morning so you can imagine how emotional tonight's ceremony was. His family and some of his ex teamate were there.
RIP Boom Boom
