You might get a kick out of this.
You know how I've stated that as kid I always wanted that damn "Johnny 7 OMA" rifle?
This past weekend my brother unveiled a DVD of some "lost" 8mm home movie footage he had found at our grandmother's house after she past away last year. "Lost" may be the wrong term since none of us ever knew it existed. It actually included my first baby steps!
Here's the kicker...the DVD included multiple reels spanning from 1960 to 1966. In the latter part of the DVD is a shot of 3 of my brothers and one neighbor kid packing 2 Okinawa rifles and 2 FRIGGIN' Johnny 7 OMAs shooting a barrage of plastic bullets and the camera (my grandfather I assume).
Although I remember inheriting one of the Okinawa rifles, I don't recall ever seeing any remnant of the Johnny 7. I'm guessing it didn't last very long and became a casualty of a fierce battle of the jungle gym in our backyard.
My brother says he has a master on DV tape so when he slides it to me I'll upload the gun footage. Cool stuff!

I finally got the footage in hand and uploaded. The first scene is my dad trying to figure out how to assemble the Johnny 7 OMA. It looks pretty complicated. In fact, in the battle scene that follows, you can see that my brother (far right) and a neighbor kid seem to have a little trouble finding all the triggers to shoot all those odds and ends. The two brothers (left) with the Monkey Division Okinawa rifles seem to have no problems emptying their respective clips.
Thus I maintain my hypothesis...that the Johnny 7 OMA proved to be much too complicated for any serious neighborhood guerrilla warfare and ended up being trashed before the year was through. As I said before, I remember inheriting an Okinawa rifle but I have no memories of the Johnny 7 OMA in our household. Maybe that's why my parents never got me one.

I'd guess the 'OMA' was a dug in &/or treehouse style weapon-
Where the 'Okinawa Rifle' was a pure assault weapon or (as all Monkey Division toys) "for Jungle Warfare"
OMA
