I hate Martha Stewart, but she shouldn't go to jail for being Martha. She got railroaded.

Who wouldn't dump their stock if they got a tip it would crash? It's not like she ran Enron or Worldcom or fukkin Haliburton...the REAL crooks run those shows!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's just it. By dumping her stock she saved something like $50,000? Chump change to her. All that it cost was her reputation, K-Mart's dignity and the trust of all shareholders. Her empire will crumble.

Keep in mind that she did not get convicted of insider trading! She got nailed for obstruction, destroying evidence and lying about it. She would have been better off admitting that she did it in the first place. She most likely would have gotten her hand slapped.

Sources say she will serve at least 12 to 18 months of her sentence.

I believe the motivation behind this "public figure" trial is to send a warning to others who commit far more atrocious white collar crime. No one is immune to prosecution.
