i reinstalled windows a couple weeks back to fix a little internet problem i was having. didn't work, but now it seems i can't uninstall Roxio 5 in order to install Roxio 6. i lost my Roxio 5 disc, so now i'm kinda screwed...
any way to get rid of the stupid thing without the installation source?

It sounds like you purchased the upgrade disk for Roxio 6, and the only way to install the majority of those type of install disks is to have the previous version. So you need to get a hold of a copy of Roxio 5 one way or another to install the upgraded ver 6.

Not True - you can set aside a small portion of the hard disk in a partition and perform backups to that area. You don't need the CD Software to do that.
The problem with relying on the CD is the same issue that you are having now. In the case of a severe system crash, you would have to rbuild the system to a point to be able to perform the backup.
If you use a seperate HDD partition, or a TBU, you could bypass all of that and get up and running very quickly from a system crash.

There is always the window! That would make a good "system crash!"

I guess that you would have to be higher than the first floor for it to really be spectacular!
