I've always used Norton products and have never had a problem with them. Just giving my $0.02

Mostly because he's a luddite. I still have invites if anyone's interested.

I got acquainted with Norton's stuff on my friend's PC. I like my older version of McAfee's firewall. Probably just because I'm more familiar with it than Norton's stuff. I know it can't screen for newer viruses, but I can still monitor incoming and outgoing traffic pretty well. I'm starting to warm up to Microsoft's AntiSpyware program too.

Thanks for the tips Bran. I couldn't get TrendMicro's free scan to work today, but I'll try again later.

Good luck with the scan. McAfee also makes a downloadable program that scans for specfic viruses (usually the most recent 40 or so). Check out http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ to download it. It does a good job.

The only tool Norton sells that I like is their Anti-Virus. I'm not a fan of their other items, especially the system optimizer stuff.

Thanks again Bran. I got TrendMicro's scan to run as well as the McAfee, but neither of them are picking up the VX2 that keeps popping up with Lavasoft. Microsoft's program lets you shut down any suspicion program activity and keeps a list of anything you identify. Things've been quiet the last couple days, and I'm wondering if they're planning a new assault, or if I managed to pick off the main culprit.

Lucky I have a ninja on my side to help out.
    Your help is muchly appreciated.

And my battle with the viruses continues. The latest one completely effed up my IE browser. Firefox to the rescue.

As an aside. Microsoft's AntiSpyware program seemed to be doing a good job of helping me isolate and remove components of the other ones.

You know, there really needs to be some good sarcastic witty comments in this thread, but i'm too dull today to think of any. So I'm opening up the floor to you, my esteemed fellow posters and drinkers of good beer.
