At this year's Children's Hospital Book Sale I found many treasures indeed!
Huzza! The Gray Shadows of Death! By William Hamm. Nov 1964 published by Thirteen Green Publications in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It cost $0.50! It's rather like Heinlen's juevenile sci-fi of the same era.
The horror! The Horror!
Yes, Mr Spock writes poetry! I thought, "can't be worse than his singing, right?" Bzzzt! Omg it's awful!
First Avon Books printing, Dec 1973, $0.40!! It's... just.... awful!
I got many more treasures! Some involving cat books wanna see em?

In Vino, Intoxicas
Mwaaahaha! You fool! Prepare for your doom!
Two random pages:
(b&w picture of a tree in winter, ie no leaves)
Patience...
The seasons pass,
The seed sprouts.
The young branches begin to form,
To reach out for new experiences,
New contacts,
To test their strength
In the wind.
To examine their size and shape
As a child discovers
Its own hands and feet.
and another:
Part IV: Credo:
Side by side
Together... opposed.
In spite of each other,
Because of each other.
In the midst of lies and painful sorrows
Lonley men without tomorrows
Promises not meant for keeping
Curtians drawn but not for sleeping
On top of the mountain stand
You and I.
The eye of time looks on in wonder
The circus band blares out its number
Gray heads sitting in the sun
Wond'ring what they might have done
In the vortex stand
You and I
O-M-G it goes on for like 7 more stanzas! But I did by chance find the title-poem Did I mention there's 70's b&w pictures on every other page? (shudder)
Don't get me wrong, I like Leonard! I even like his singing (more than Bill Shatner's at least) but this stuff is dreadful! I mean I wrote crap like this when I was 19! What's Leonard's excuse? lmao!
I could rip into these two poems, if you'd like. It's just too easy though! Like fish in a can, eh? Blam blam! I mean really, do we want to 'get into' the thought of Leonard Nimoy's "seed sprouting" eeeew! But I am an English Major (cue Gilbert & Sullivan music, "I remain an English Major! He re-main-a-a-a-a-ains an Eeeeglish Major!") and could rend this gaggle of words most heinously eh?
Extra-Credit Internet Assignment: Try to find a fan-site that has a transcript of this book!

I'd like to see examples of 5Cats' poetry from when he was 19. I would post mine, but I don't have any. I burnt them all. By popular request.

Ick! I dumped the vast majority of it years ago, it was awful, dreadful, icky!
A small sampling is hidden somewhere amoung my stuff, I know not where, luckily.
I looked for how much You & I was going for on E-Bay, between $1-$5, lol! I still think it's treasure tho

Teen angst should be captured forever...so it can be laughed at later from a better perspective.
