Rapid cuts

I'd like to cut in lots of black to a slow motion sequence I've shot. I want to make the image flicker as if it is from a zoeatrope. Is it possible to cut in many frames of black or will it weaken the film too much to have so many joins?

The footage is on negative film - do I cut it then print it of vica versa?

How do you feel about transfering the film to video and then doing the editing on video?
