Red face Help needed identifying film reel types

Hello, I am completely new here so take pity I have a load of small reels of film which my parents took in the late 70's early 80's. They are in yellow kodak envelopes with our old house address on "obviously been posted to us that way" years ago. How i do know if these reels of film are cine8 or super 8 etc? Any help would be welcome.

Re: Help needed identifying film reel types

Hi, they are probably "super-8" film reels.

Super-8 film has smaller film sprocket holes than regular 8mm film. If you don't have both to compare it may be difficult to know what smaller is, but basically most of the film frame is film, whereas with regular 8mm the sprocket hole is pretty big in relation to the film area.

Why not take a digital still of the film frame so we can take a look at it.

There is another way if you don?t have both films to compare.

    1. On super 8mm the sprocket holes are located in direct line with the spaces between the frames.

    2. On super 8mm the holes are located in direct line with the center of the frames

The above seems confusing, 8mm film has really big sprocket holes. Even if you have never seen film before, they would look big in comparision to the actual film frame.
