Question What can I expect from Kodachrome expired 11/2005?

I have had two cartridges of precious Kodachrome sitting in my fridge for 5 years, waiting for the perfect moment. Since Dwyane's is going to stop processing Kodachrome in December, I figure now is that moment. I was just wondering if anyone knew what kind of effects/imperfections I can expect from this film. I'm interested in expired film for the effects it creates but don't have much experiece with expired Super 8. These rolls have traveled across the country a couple times but have spent 99% of their time refridgerated. Has anyone shot Kodachrome recently who'd like to comment on this? Thanks!

Re: What can I expect from Kodachrome expired 11/2005?

I have recently shot some Kodachrome 40 Super 8 Sound film and just got it back from Dwayne's Photo yesterday. The colours looked great! I was surprised there was no colour shift and I compared it to Kodachrome I shot new and the results were pretty much the same.

I was shooting film that expired in 1993 but I have kept frozen since it was purchased new. Now keeping your film in the fridge as opposed to keeping in the freezer may have some affect on your film. I was always told by old time 8mm film makers to keep the film frozen if you plan not to shoot for a long time. Since your film expired 5 years ago it might not have changed too much. The only way to really find out is to shoot a roll.

Dwayne's Photo did a good job in developing my Kodachrome film and the turn around time was about 3 weeks from the time I mailed it to the time I got it back.

    Good luck!

It's probably a win win either way. Either the film comes back and if properly exposed looks gorgeous, or it comes back with something funky about it that you may like. (your film seems to have been well taken care of so probably won't happen).
