Question

    hi,

    i have a *Boots Supasplice* which i use with adhesive, perforated tape - which works;

    plus a *Bolex splicer* that i use for cement splicing, which also works;

    but someone said a *CIR splicer* was superior to both of the above -

    any comments, please?

    thanks + season's greetings!

    I didn't like the CIR. Of course I just don't like tape. I actually liked the Wurker tape better than the CIR.

    For the money I can't see how the Bolex can be beat. There is a better splicer out there but its not cheap. I think Hamman (??) is the name. It cuts the film at an angle (so no emulsion grinding needed) and uses cement.

    ouch!

    the more you learn the less you know! i'd like to try the CIR but it is also refreshing to hear that not everyone considers it to be the bee's knees; i was very impressed with the Bolex, and was even able to cement Single 8 with it Someone suggested to me recently that Bolex cement splices unstick after a while, but i can see no evidence for this?

    Hamman splicer:-  ?

    thanks,

    ric

    <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">If the splices are done improperly then yes they will prematurely break. The key is to get ALL of the emulsion off and brush away all particles before putting the cement on. Another problem can occur with using old cement. It must be fresh.

    The Bolex is an awesome machine, I've had excellent results with mine. I just wish it didn't make so much emulsion dust!

    i have to come clean and report not all my loctite splices are a success - they can jump - but some of them never jump, so it proves this can be done

    plus the fact the Chinon 8811 is an exceptionally finicky projector - it will jump a splice if you so much as look at it the wrong way!
