It was described as a "Silma super 8 and standard 8mm SOUND projector" from 1965! I have never heard of one of these but, it looked so pretty, I had to bid on it and I won it for $31.00. Was this a good deal? Anyone know anything about them? Looks like it's made out of all metal but who knows? Apparently it's an Italian model but will run on 115VAC. Anyway, I'll get it in a week or so out of Mexico. Any information from the peanut gallery would be welcome. Here's a pic.

    Thanks!

I am curious. What is your purpose to buy it since you got so many projectors. (smiling) Jerome

I did not know there was such a thing. So this thing can play regular 8mm movies that have sound? Did they actually sell 8mm sound striped film at one point, or movies?

Okay so it can play super 8 sound movies as well as regular 8mm. That's a weird combination, especially considering it was from 1965? Did they even have super 8 sound film then or are we talking regular 8mm with sound? What's up with this model!? For $31 plus shipping it could be an interesting projector. Please let us know the story on this thing!

There was a R8 camera/projector combo, made by either Fairchild or Keystone (I can't remember which), that could record sound. I've read that though it could record sound, it could not do synch-sound. I don't think it was very widespread.

The 1960s and early 1970s are before my time. I have seen S8 sound movies being sold on eBay that date from around that time period, so it's not so far fetched to have a dual 8mm sound projector on the market in 1965.

The first consumer S8 cameras that could record synch-sound appeared around 1974, BTW.
