AHA!
I always pronounced this "Shy-a-MAL-un, then I read an interview with him, and he said everyone pronounces his name wrong and it irritates him, so I asked a couple Indian friends of mine, and they said it's not an uncommon name in India.
It's pronounced:
SHAM-uh-len.
Weird, huh? I had it way wrong...

If you rent one of his movies, and look in the special features section, the producers say his name a few times.
