Maybe the sound stripe won't adhere as well to the "wrong" side?

does the mag tape care which side the emulsion is on? can't you just glue it to the side the sound head expects to find it on?

There are two types of magnetic striping. The most common is the tape kind. However, Kodak used a more superior magnetic liquid type when they made their film stocks. When Kodak used to make prints, they had to cut a small groove for the sound track in the emmulsion so the magnetic bead would adhere.
I am currently talking with Kodak in an attempt to get them to revive their Kodachrome print service. I think the ability to make high quality prints on sound stock would go a long way toward facilitating super 8 projection again.

Contact printing works very well for a splicing tape well done, but the visual impression does not work. A sense of touch provides evidence of splicing. A visual impression will be referred to it.
