Actually, by learning to say "no" to jobs I now seem to avoid the totally fucktard jobs. If someone is looking for a sound recordist tomorrow because their last guy "dropped out" - that's the sort of job I avoid.

On another note I have found synergies with other local moviemakers who want to network, and slowly things seem to be coming together in that space.

But yeah, been totally dead here. Pity.

I took the gig because my friend(sound-guy) said it would be worth while.

Soon after I realized that the director is a coke-head and doesn't know what the hell he is doing and can't seem to keep the blow out of his nose long enough to make any sort of rational choice.

It was odd...To see a bunch of great people all working on a sinking ship without any direction or leader just seemed strange.

People would look at me because I'm the DP and I would tell them "I don't know what the fuck is going on."

Saying "No" is great. I do it all the time...

The question is when do you walk?? Is walking off the set a wise choice?? Is walking OK when you are the only thing keeping the thing alive??

    Good Luck

Tough call. Unless they were paying me enough to take all the shit, I'd walk. If cokehead's opinion doesn't affect your reputation on the circuit, why would you stay?

Mostly, because other people were looking at me as though I should know what is going on.

There were a lot of people that were working hard to make such a shitty project that will never see the screen. I realized I was the lynch pin and if I walked then it would be very clear that everything these people had done up to then was for nothing. Took one for the team so to speak...

It is odd because so much of what was or wasn't going on came out of pure ignorance as to how to make a film.

The director can only be described as an idiot. I have never seen a 43 year old man have a temper tantrum until two weeks ago. Here are a few gems that came out of this guys mouth:

"I'm the Director. If I want to leave the set I can."

An hour later to the extras.

"Can you all come back?? Since they shot without me I don't know if they were able to get what I need."

"The lead has to be on the right of her. I don't care if you can't frame it that way. That is the way I wrote it and that is the way it has to be."

Ahhhh. Just a few choice lines from someone that has a view of filmmaking that is pulled from tabloid TV and DVD special features.

Any one else work with some dip-shits??

    Good Luck

    Ha!!!

Don't laugh about the strike. It hasn't been any sweat for me but my guess is that if it lasts until next Summer I will feel it.

Last Summer a lot of my AC work was on bigger budget union shoots and if they aren't shooting...I'm not getting paid.

    Good Luck

Its all a bit negative isn't it?

I haven't worked with any tossers in ages perhaps because I choose who I work with very carefully. I realise that may not always be feasible.

My camera friends have some unbelievable stories from other shoots mind.
