Any films you are looking forward to??

    Projects??

My still photography has really taken off. Mainly shooting live music. It looks like I will have a spread in a glossy for March and then the film season is getting closer all the time.

Hopefully, 2008 will be better than 2007. I have decided that this year I will keep better books and look at how much I really am hauling in versus how much I am spending on my gear and such.

    You??

    Good Luck

One last long kiss goodbye ....

I am sending out review copies of my movie "Crooked Features" in a last bid for .... good reviews ... any reviews! The DVD now has extras!

Two shorts coming up where I am doing production sound. One in Feb, the other slated for April. There will doubtless be more as more projects get green-lit at OTTfilms.

I did some pick-up production sound on "Comicman" which is being screened next Saturday at a local BBC venue. Too bad I'll be drinking beer in Belgium that day.

I'm working with a comedy writer on a sketch show tentatively titled "Chalking Heads".

I plan to have finished the first draft of my feature script "Gordon's Alive!" by the end of the year. If only.

Also have the possibility of another music clip coming up for a band called "Major Melons".

I've also overspent on my kit last year, but feel it was worth it to enable me to do professional grade production sound/mixing (commercials and features) if and when the opportunities arise.

2008 is going to be tight on my personal finances, that's for sure.

    Miker,

    No goodbye kisses allowed.

Let's try to get this place rolling again. It is depressing to see the only new posts are spam.

2008 will be good for everyone. Lets talk about it!

    Good Luck

2008 could be an interesting one for me personally...

I'm showing a cut of my feature to the Irish Film Board very soon and their reaction will go along way to determining my fate as a filmmaker. Or if thats a bit melodramatic, it would certainly help my cause greatly if they liked it...

I'm spending February in Brazil with a DOP pal o' mine. This will be a mind expanding exercise.

Kit wise, I think I'm sorted, I can't see any investment from me this year.

I'd really like to polish up a couple of feature scripts and get them looked at as well and for maybe the first time I'm in a position to show them to people who actually wield power, so i'd like them to be a s good as they can be.

Kinda funny how Europeans and American film-makers differ...

What I have noticed is that Euro's tend to put a lot of eggs into the governmental basket when it comes to their films.

"I've put off production until next year when I can re-apply for the funding." That kind of theme seems to be quite common.

Where as Yanks tend to claw and fight their whole way through production just to get it done. "What do you mean that card was declined?!"

    Both have faults.

    Either one is fine.

    Neither is perfect.

    What do you think??

    Good Luck

I dunno if these comments are pertaining to me or not...but in my case:

We did it the fighting, clawing, American way. We didnt hang around waiting for proper funding, the elusive magical yes, we just flew over to Portugal and shot the thing with no backing from anyone. Cos we're such rebels. S16 shooting rebels with brilliant haircuts.

All I want now is for them (The film board) to stump up for a quality sound mix and colour grade. Not much to ask for, eh?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Australia is the same as Europe in that way. Everybody is all about the funding. Though they've upped their maximum budget per short film now to $150k, which is pretty extraordinary for a short. They don't expect any of it back, either.

I can't imagine it's humanly possible to raise that much for a short on your own without somebody expecting a significant return.

Haven't posted for a while, so here it is:

DoP on Irish TV series (waiting for Greenlight)

Get a script finished for preproduction starting in July.

Get an established director for a feature script sitting with a big distributor.

    Shoot some shorts - DONE.
