Sure...Untamed. I think your bitch is that they teach you that killer sandwiches are lame-ass-shit no matter what.

As for the HVX it is still video and it still looses data when it clips. Does it look good--Yes. Does it have a look that I would choose day after day--No.

    Good Luck

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Actually, I'm not talking about any of the scripts I've written. I didn't bother submitting anything last year 'cos I knew I didn't have anything they'd go for ('cos, as you say, killer sandwiches are lame-ass-shit).

But they choose the most pedestrian, middle-of-the-road screenplays for production, and if one slips through the net that actually has potential to be interesting, they develop those elements out of it.

I would agree Untamed. When I was in my final year of University, my film production class had the chance to write scripts and pitch them to the rest of the class. Thus, the early weeks leading up to the pitch the teachers taught us the way to write scripts. At no point during the classes did they tell us to be original with our writings, but instead showed us popular shorts and tell us of the generic form of which they are written. This lead to most scripts that got pitched being practically all the same and actually getting marked in the evaluation as to whether they conformed to usual style of script writing.

I'm currently editing material for a dvd. Its for the Office of Children's Ombudsman and comprises interviews, animation and short films*, all of which I also directed. Its a decent paycheck and dealing with children's rights, the karma is sky high.

This has meant that my feature film "Memoria", will have to languish in "very-nearly-there-limbo" a little longer.

I also have a screenplay deadline for Aug 17th that I have very little hope of making...but you never know I guess.

*Oh and the film has still not arrived from the lab (Todd-AO - the A must be for avoid) despite being guarantted it would arrive on fri at 1pm. Its tuesday night. 27 phone calls later....Did they courier it? No. Registered post? No. Regular post? Yes.

Un-fucking real. Film rushes by regular post. This is valuable shit. I've lost 3 days of editing cos of these planks.

A question for the bods that went to film school because I'm curious about the process:

Do they teach screen writing? I mean in a formal classroom setting with tutorials and discussions or are you supposed to get it by being exposed to films in an osmosis kind of way?

I was just wondering how they did it and what your thoughts were about the value of it? I'm hoping to improve my craft a bit so I'm p/t at uni studying English lit. (Third time around at uni for me -- Gah!) and I'm kinda curious as to the different approaches that are being used (if there are any?).

    Let me know?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, from my experience at the Northern Film School...

In the first year, we spent the second semester writing scripts. It was a kind of workshop environment, where we'd pitch our ideas, spend a week or two writing it, then bringing them in and reading them out to each other. Our "tutors" gave us the very basics of screenwriting, like layout, three act structure and such.

In our second year, it was one of our specialisms that we chose, but it didn't actually count towards our grades. Again we didn't have any proper lectures, it was just the vague idea of a screenplay and writing to those specifications.
