I'm doing some research/exploratory work for something that may or may not be on tv in the next 20 years.
Plus doing my own writing and stuff.
Also trying to find no-budget directors and producers to work with that don't think they're also writers.

It's not going well.

I know my limits. I aint a writer. But you have to expect changes by the time a shooting script is finalised and the entire story is changed to take place in your parents garage on a Sunday evening before tea. Those Orange ads are funny for a reason - many a true word has been said in jest!
producer + director + almost anyone else above the line = story editor
writer = below the line
sad but true - unless you're self-funding in which case you become executive producer above the line ergo story editor

I can live with the idea of changes to the script. That's part of the process and I'm not "in love" with the stuff I write for other people. If there wasn't a need for 8 or 12 drafts or input from the producer and director then trust me, I wouldn't bother doing them. I'd just turn in the draft I'm happy with and tell them to take it or leave it. But what I do get bored with is people who don't understand story or structure or how setups and payoffs work telling me that "We should put this here because we need to show this" when I know better. Unfortunately this is >99% of the "above the line" staff that I've met.
You don't tell editors how to edit, you don't tell the sound director how to have a shot boomed or how to do the mix-down. So don't tell writers how to write. I don't tell directors how to direct the script, I just tell them "We're going to need A and B here and here or C isn't going to make the slightest bit of sense and the actors will get pissed off with you."

Back on topic....
What have people been working on in the last two/three weeks??
I just wrapped on another HD short. It looks pretty good. The director is more happy with it than I am. Should've shot film. We did some cool remakes of Goya painting which was fun.
Good Luck

I've been re-writing a script that my mate wrote last year, that she'll produce and I'll direct, potentially in the next month or two.

Filming lots of agricultural events and equipment as well as finally getting cracking on a feature script which I have hanging around for over a year now. Finally feel confident enough to tackle it.
