Also Artisan movies can really suck, or be pretty good. I wonder how much these distributors are buying these crappy films for. Anyone here know?

I like Canal+.
They distribute (nearly) all European cinema. La Haine and that kinda' stuff. Can't really go wrong where mid-90's French cinema is concerned.

Lion's Gate aren't that bad... they distributed Dogma, Dog Soldiers and Beyond Re-Animator in the States.
Artisan, however, are well justified in their reputation of cackness. After Blair Witch, they thought they were hot shit, but then they put out Children of the Living Dead on DVD, thus making them the equivalent to Satan's anus.
In my opinion.
