As I'm preparing to edit my next project, of course the computer crashes.

Now I have a choice of installing Adobe Premiere 4.2 or 5. Sounds like an obvious decision...BUT...installing 4.2 will be much easier as I'm on a tight time-frame here [it is currently in my possession].

Does 5 have an amazing upperhand over 4.2?
Or are the benefits just minor?

They are very similar, most differences are interface tweaks. 4.2 will work, but 5.5 will work better (probably)

I prefer 5.5, it probably renders quicker too.

What PC will you be installing it on?

What is the difference between 5.5 and 5.1? I got 5.1 yesterday.

It seems quite hard to use.

I don't see much difference between Prem 5.1 and 5.5 .... I just like to have up-to-date version numbers.

I think version 5.5 is probably illegal, too.

I like to have the latest versions too.

    How is 5.5 illegal?

I don't know exactly what happened becasue I wasn't editting this project but some friends of mine were using Premiere 5.1 and got to the end of their film and went to put it back onto DV tape. They had been told by their teachers to render the whole project before exporting it to tape. While doing this they lost the entire project. The technicain told us that it was because they had blocked up the hard disk drive by rendering the whole project and that in previous versisons of Premier you had to render the whole project at the end but with 5.1 it should have all of the transitions rendered separately so you shouldn't render the whole thing before exporting to tape. Is this true? What do you know about this?

Oh you mean it is a pirate copy. So is my 5.1, I'd never be able to buy it at retail prices.
