I have been trying to figure out a way that we could post some stills from our work to the board...

Does anyone have an extra 200/250 megs of space on their server they would be willing to donate for this??

    Thanks

    Good Luck

I certainly have the server space to dedicate, and would be happy to do so. There's a few things that may make my server services less than perfect though, mainly cos it sits in a corner in my house:

    1. I'm on 512K Broadband, but upstream to the end-user will be 256K. If bandwidth consistently became an issue I would want to review the situation and possibly stop hosting for the board.

    2. Like I say, it's just a desktop-class server sitting in the corner of my house. No uptime guarantee (though right now its uptime is 238 days).

    3. I don't have a static IP address but I do subscribe to a DDNS service which updates my DNS name each time my IP address gets changed by my ISP. This change-over period has been known to cause issues in the past, though it happens relatively infrequently.

    4. Tech support will be lousy :-)

If no better offers come along we can follow this up.

    Miker--

It wouldn't be a place to host the board but rather a place where people could post some images from their projects to get feedback.

Perhaps we could iron out the details off the board??

    Thanks

guess I'd best knock-up some instructions then.

can I assume that most of us are going to be using 2000/XP or OS X ?

Put simply, FTP is the best way to upload! Remember on Geocities where you have a box that you search for a file and put each thing up induvidually - well FTP is nothing like that. It's more like using Windows Explorer - try downloading ftp explorer at ftpx.com ..

It's a drag and drop method of uploading files, you can access servers like ftp.bigpoo.com etc.

And, I kind of have my own server but it's not a shareable one sadly. I hope to get one in the future that will be shareable.

i'd recommend Cyberduck on the OS X side.

with Windows, using IE you should be able to type in the address bar:

    ftp://[email protected]

assuming everything is working ok (and i have supplied you with the password ;-) you can drag and drop onto my server.
