What do we all think of the Oscar race this year? Pretty wide open, I reckon.
They'd just better give Marty his props this year.

I agree Marty should get his props, however there has been quite a fuss made about it and I'm worried he will get one just for the sake of giving him one.
Which would be a shame because he SHOULD have won Oscars for his movies in the past - Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas.

Yeah, but they've given Oscars for past bodies of work before.
Think Al Pacino. Scent of a Woman was a mediocre movie with a mediocre performance. But he was given the award to acknowledge his past performances, since he'd never received an Oscar before and everyone reckoned it was about time.
Same thing here. Scorsese's better days are behind him, but since he's America's greatest living film-maker it's about time he was honoured as such.
Please don't wait till he's 95 and shuffling around in his wheelchair before fobbing him off with an honorary Oscar.

That's cos most films are shit these days.
Maybe if they took their inspiration from the Seventies and stopped making films by committee, we'd have movies that are actually worth giving Oscars to.

I notice Jamie Foxx could win an Oscar for both Leading Actor and Supporting Actor.
Pardon my ignorance (I have never really followed the Oscars in depth), but has an actor/actress won both gongs before?

I don't think it's ever been done before, no. Certainly not in recent memory.
What I want to know is - where the hell has Alan Alda been hiding all these years?
