Anybody got some favorite GRP albums? I just saw a Tom Shuman CD '90 at the pawnshop with Weck on it. Is it any good?

Anyway, I enjoyed Special Efx Double Vision back in the day as well as Chick. I also really liked John Pat-a-Tushie's "On the Corner"!

Elektric Band's Eye Of The Beholder, Inside Out.
Marienthals' Crossroads. John P's Sketchbook and first Self-Titled CD. Some of those CD's are good example's of Vinnie's playing from that era of his (my favorite I think in some ways). It was pre-Sting so he was a bit more agressive with his playing.
he had those recording custom power toms on a lot of those CD's for that big wide open sound. Good stuff.

Yeah, isn't Schmooze on Crossroads(Killer Album). I love that song. Frank has it on one of his albums but the production is a bit weak.
Back in college I used to see Weckl or Vinnie on the musicians listing and I'd buy 'em outright.

There's also that GRP Super Band double album with Vinnie one one disc playing with Diane Schuur and Weckl on the other with The Electric Band.

Yeah Vinnie is smoking on Sketchbook, probably(not absolutely sure) my favorite period of Vinnie's playing=later 80's to early nineties. Eye of the Beholder, my first time being ABSORBED with Weckl. Both great album's.

Steve Khan's Public Access w/ Weckl and Anthony Jackson is great. BTW, anyone seen that Inside Out video? The band is synching to the album, totally disappointing! Omar's first CD was kinda interesting. They seemed to market him more as a singer. Also, there is one by this dude named Szacksi(sp?) i cant remember the title, but Smitty Smith is just burning on it!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'll 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th that.

Schmooze is a nice mellower tune [great groove from Weckl/Acuna-perc] off Crossroads [but it does also have a couple burning moments, AW! ]...Upside Down is the obvious, but i also like Spoons on there AW. A KILLER groove from Vinnie, even if a little busy at times ["'Busy?!' What the heck is THAT supposed to mean?!"]...I suppose I could compare it very loosely in motif to Metheny/Gottlieb's Phase Dance groove - similar in context but yet def diff AWA somewhat more "aggressive," for lack of better]; AWA Weckl's Sun Was in My Eyes [mislabeled as Terri Lynne C]...great playing by Dave [as if it'd be anything but]...

"GRP Super Live double album with Vinnie one one disc playing with Diane Schuur and Weckl on the other with The Electric Band" is also a great buy.

And these that Stv listed are must-have albums...[BTW, EM's CRs is not like the other EM solo disc that is more smooth in nature...there is some STELLAR playing on these recordings]. I have them on both cassette tape & vinyl But soon that will be rectified... ;c)

please, not omar's first solo album. that has to be one of the worst cd's that GRP ever put out. although he was one of my biggest influences growing up, it's still pains me to hear him sing to this day .
