"Don't practice until you get it right. Practice until you don't get it wrong!"
- Dave Hassell
We've all read something, maybe just one thing that somebody said, that might have had a profound effect and perhaps huge impact on our playing. I know I've read a few things that have hit right home and enlightened me in one way or another. It may not always be something I hadn't thought of, it may be something I knew but it was put in such a way that it really drove it home.
Post something from HoD past posts or recent that you think is profound and really nails a certain aspect of drumming that could benefit anyone. Something that really gets to the crux of the matter. Here's 2 people's quotes that I like, but there are many more I'm sure.

"...you can improve your time, just by an increased awareness and concentration about the time." Like on a gig...I've been on gigs before where I'm so focused on the time that I improve it. ...and at the end of the gig your senses are so sharp because you were concentrating so intently on the time...and you realize it the next time you sit down to play and you just feel stronger..."
"A reality check may be in order as well(applying to everyone). Calculate how many hours you've spent on the instrument and compare it to someone who's time you admire- like Weckl or Gadd. Do the math, count the hours. Let's for argument sake say you wished your time was as good as Weckl's was when he was 24. Continuing, we'll say that Dave started playing at around age 8 and played the drums an average of 30 hours a week up until he began getting serious gigs while living in NYC, let's say age 24. That's 30 hours x 52 weeks x 16 years. (That's probably a close estimate, all things considered- but of course there's margin for error and I'm just trying to prove a point here). That's 25,000 hours. Of course his time his good. Then you would ask yourself how many hours you've put in and compare.
I'm convinced you have to put the time in."

Damn, Randy, you beat me to the punch! Nothing brightens a crappy day at work quite like when T-Bo posts a review that ends with, "...but his drums sounded like a big bag of ass."
"...on your DVD, what kind of hair product did you use? It looks like you get a really nice firm hold..."

or betta:
"...and his drums sounded like a big cup of ass."
"I guess "sitting on my ass eating Ben and Jerry's Whoopie Pie ice cream" doesn't qualify as a line of work, so I'll have to say I don't have one."
"I don't think there's a lot of "prejudice" against Weckl because he's short. I never even realized he was of small stature until one night at the Jazz Bakery, when he walked right into my left knee. For a short guy, he sure seems to do well with the chickies (his wife is smokin'). Weckl rocks the fashizzle, even if he is Lillipution. (Jesus, I hope he doesn't read this stuff.) "

These are profound thoughts that triggered profound laughing cramps.
