Hi everyone I'm pretty new here, have posted in the past but it's been awhile. Anyway just wondering what music notation programs you teachers use for creating exercises for students. I've sampled some of the shareware and I can't find one yet that is simple enough to stick with. All I'm trying to do is create accent patterns in triplet form and add thr RLRLR thing underneath. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Travis

I think Finale is the best. It's really easy to notate LRLR.. type stuff using the lyrics tool in Finale. This too rocks because you can set up multiple lines above or below the staff which works great for conga notation.

I tested them all and for drum the more accurate and easy are those 2 software :
TabTrax ( http://2112design.com/ ) Very easy to use but the result look some kinda cheap and still some small bug
The second is just Pefect but the price is high, it's Overture ( http://www.geniesoft.biz/ ) , using drum map just use grace note for flam and "Groups Parentheses" for ghost note and you make in 5 minute drum sheet who look like those one we have on drum book today

Yeah finale is a bit of a task to work with at first, but if you talk to anyone that does score work or anything, they'll tell you finale is the best because of it's endless variety of options.
Funny enough I've been using it for years now, and I still figure out new features regularly.
Another great prog to have along with any notation program is acrobat. Then you can print to pdf for easy distribution.

Acrobat and get a little pricy if all you want to do it make/prinit pdf's. Check out http://www.cutepdf.com/
Sib is more of a easier way to do things but I'll agree finale has more features..You just have to figure them out.

If you want something easy, try Notepad (it's free) from Finale and will allow very basic notation (no x-shaped heads) but is very simple to use. From there, they offer programs like Print Music, Allegro and then their flagship program - Finale all increasing in power, price and complexity. I have Sibelius too, but so far haven't had the time to figure it out. To create .pdf's I use Preview (included free with Mac's) - select .pdf from the print menu.
To my knowledge Overture hasn't been updated in a long time and is obsolete.
