    Question

I'm looking into buying a Tama Rhythm Watch or a Yamaha Clickstation and am wondering how many of you have had hands-on experience with either one? I noticed that the Yamaha has what looks to be a little built-in mixer which is a cool feature, among others. Any advice?

I have the Rhythm Watch....I like it. Check out the Dr. Beat too, if you want. I have never tried the yamaha, but it's probably very similar, but looks like it has more features.

btw, the little "mixer" in the yamaha is volume adjustments for each individul note value i.e. quarter, sixteenth, and rhythm watch has that too.

i have the rythm watch and it's great. the only downside to it is that you can't scroll programs up or down. you have to scroll all the way to 30, before program shows up again. other than that, it's great.

I've got a rhythm watch. Got nothing to complain about it - it's a great tool.

get the click station, it seriously is better than the tama or the roland....it has midi capability, backlight, 99 memory banks, vibrate feature (great for getting tempo at gigs)...I got one and havent regreted it one bit....

The Clickstation is the most advance of the three. If money's an issue the Tama is the cheapest of them.

but not by that much right?

I think the RW reatils for about 100 whilst the CS for about 120.

The yamaha clickstation is definetely the most advanced with the best features

I just saw an ad of the new Dr.Beat which seemed to have everything the Clickstation has and more. I think the exact model was DB90. I have the Yamaha and I have been very satisfied with it. One feature that the Rhythmwatch and DB90 do not have is the silent vibrating click that Clickstation has. It sounds silly but it has been really useful. On the other hand DB90 has some drum patterns that might be useful for some (the claves for example).

    Some (dated) info here.

Just the vibrating button of the Clickstation is worth the extra money. It's the most useful thing I've found for tempos at gigs. You don't need headphones or to try to catch a small flashing LED. Just set max vibration and put the tip of your stick on it. Within 2 clicks you physically feel the tempo and are ready for a solid start off. And song titles can be programmed and are easy to navigate through.
