Not that it matters but, I'm a proud Canadian man. I'm just curious if there are any other Canadians on here. Like I said, a drummer's a drummer and one's ability isn't based on nationality, but I was just curious. You know you always hear about hockey players and comedians being Canadian, but you never hear of esoteric really skilled drummers admitting that they're Canadian. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just that drumming itself has always been considered a U.S. art form, and we Canadian drummers don't have a strong sense of identity.

Again I'm not trying to cause a big scene on here I was just curious if I was the only Canadian on here. Anyone know of any famous session cats that hail from the great white north??

Peace.

P.S.
Sorry guys, I couldn't resist. No offense moldynudger; You're more than welcome in our drumming fraternity.

Hi,

Being a drummer in Quebec for the last 40 years, I've seen many Canadian drummers who are great session drummers:

In Quebec, only to name a few: Paul Brochu, Magella Cormier,
Richard Provencal, Camil B?lisle, etc, and the new breed of session players: Tony Albino, Denis Courchesne, and others...

In Ontario: Well, the great Randy Cooke now lives in L.A. !, Kevan McKenzie has recorded so often with major record labels, Rick Gratton, Paul DeLong, Charlie Cooley, Mark Kelso, Ottawa's Bruce Wittet, Flavio Monopoli, and some of the new guys, Dave Langguth, Davide Direnzo, etc.

From out west, guys like Ray Garraway, Jay Deachman, and so many others !

Other Canadian drummers who have left Canada are Dominique Messier (with Celine Dion in Las Vegas), Ron Thaler (NYC),
and maybe the most-known out of Canada - Neil Peart !

And how about you. Drumming Sort of Person,... where are you from, and when did you move to the States ?

There is a great mix of U.S. and Canadian talent working together in North America. When you think of it, we are all Americans (North Americans).

Well, i'm a drummer, but i wouldn't exactly say highly skilled....
We mostly play bar gigs etc around Red Deer, Alberta area.
Limited studio work, in fact just released a cd 2 days ago. It's a mix of country/bluegrass/folk, kinda like Ian Tyson. Real simple drumming, brush stuff etc which was all done in one take....it was that easy...LOL
We're also on a compilation cd by Cyclone (a division of Sony Music) called "the Heart of Alberta" and i've been told 3 of our songs are in the top 4 on some indi country/folk chart, which i haven't personally seen.
I'm also a full time pilot with WestJet, so i'm lucky to be playing as much as i have been. So far i'm gigging almost every weekend.
Where abouts are you from?

Great (parody) thread going here, eh!

I'm Canadian too, played drums throughout BC, Alberta, Whitehorse, Toronto etc. Many great drummers here, Groove mentioned a lot of them but I don't know how you can name Jay Deachman and not GARY GRACE! Gary has put on clinics with guys like Virgil Donati and Rodney Holmes among others and looked/sounded just as good if not better than some of these "big name" drummers. The guy is a 100% true drummer, from a family of drummers

Gotta go, time for some maple syrup and bacon... and beer.

Rodge, not too sure about Ray

Paul DeLong used to frequent HOD, I wonder what happened to him - great drummer. I took a lesson from him while I was also in TO, he gave me a bunch of CDs and about 6 months of stuff to work on. Oh and did anyone mention Mark Kelso?

CL Warunki,

Sorry I did not mention Gary Grace. He's a great drummer !

As you know, the way Canada is spread out, with different cultures, many great musicians are omitted in this type of discussion.

In the States, most of the greats are in either L.A. or NYC.
Easier to keep track of !!!

I did mention Mark Kelso, who is on my top five list !
