Not to be a critic, but maybe next time we can all submit/decide categories- there are a few here that seem ambiguous like "all-around jazz drummer", "most popular drummer", "overall pop drummer"...

I think I can honestly say I don't have a favorite drummer. By choosing one you exclude the others...

    1) Your all-time favorite drummer: Tie: Jeff Porcaro/Omar Hakim/Steve Gadd

    2) Best big band drummer(all eras): Sonny Payne

    3) Best studio drummer: Steve Gadd

    4) Best 40s, 50s drummer: Gene Krupa/Philly Joe Jones

    5) Best Progressive rock drummer: Neil Peart

    6) Best all-around jazz drummer: (all-around?)Pete Erskine

    7) Best Latin drummer: (Latin? I thought that term was obsolete) Dafnis Prieto

    8) Best heavy rock drummer: John Bonham

    9) Best new jazz drummer (1995 to 2005): Tie: Ari Hoenig/Antonio Sanchez

    10) Best overall Pop drummer: (What's "pop"? POP-ular music? Again, opinion doesn't matter- just record sales) I guess Josh Freese

    11) Best Groove drummer: Omar Hakim

    11) Most popular drummer: (Popular with whom?According to what? Not really an opinion question)

    12) Most underrated drummer: Sean Rickman

    13) Most lovable drummer: Jeff Porcaro

    14) Drummer who influenced you the most in your playing: Tie: Steve Gadd/Jeff Porcaro

    15) Three people in the drum industry who, you think made a big difference in your lives when learning drums.
    (teachers, drum industry people, etc)

Dave Weckl for showing what's possible.
DCI Music Video/Manhattan Music/Hudson Music for educational materials.
Bernard from Drummerworld for continued inspiration.

Wow is all I can say.
I cannot really add to this because I do not have any absolute favorites. I love all of my favorites equally. For example, it would be hard to choose between Bill Stewart, Tain or Hass. Drummers from all 3 jazz recordings I am now listening to.

It is interesting to me that the best studio drummer is mostly Vinnie. Meanwhile, Hal Blaine, Benard Purdie, Earl Palmer, Jeff Porcaro, JR Robinson, and Shawn Pelton are(were in some cases) more the first call contemporary drummers. They also have much more on their discographies.
To each his own. There are more seasoned session drummers out there though. Even though they are not capable of what Vinnie is.

what makes a more 'seasoned' session drummer? Vinnie was doing sessions before anyone even knew who Shawn Pelton was.

Well Randy, Vinnie was not considered a session drummer until the late 80s. A session drummer being someone who is absolute first call.

Shawn Pelton is absolute first call and has been for many years. He has not been on the scene as long, however he is on twice the amount of recordings and jingles in the short time he has been first call. Check out the history of everyone not just Vince. You will learn quite a bit about some others. Shawn Pelton is the first call of top producers and has been since 1989.

I am not saying anyone is better that anyone. If you compare careers and experience, you will find many others who are only session players.
