This is not a very interesting post.
I just want to write down some aspects, because I have no one to talk too in real life.

since 10 years or so, I try to play the groove Molusses run,
played by omar hakim from the weather report record, called procession.
it was and is the perfect groove for me. I knew, that this groove is very tricky.
oke, just for me perhaps.
It was quite difficult for me, to play the groove, but I did it - technically.
but I always had the feeling, by playing the groove, that I miss something.
from year to year, I tried again, to play relaxed, but I did it only technically.
problem was perhaps, I know now, when I look back, that I never tried to play the groove
together with the music, because I always thought, I have a technical problem.
and yesterday, after nearly 10 years, I checked the groove.
what a shame. since 10 years, I missed the beginning point of this groove.
the groove is played over 8 bars I think, but divided in 2 times 4 bars.
and I always thought, the opening of the hi-hat is the key.
I thought, the opening of the hi-hat is the "one".
yesterday, I think it was more a coincidence, I shifted MY FEELING of the "one",
and after 10 years, I could play this groove the first time relaxed,
with the feeling, every part of the groove makes sence to me.
I don't know, if my idea is the real idea.
But I understand, what i try to play, and I think, that's o.k.

Again, it was a good example for me, how much time I wasted during my playing,
because I never had a teacher.
and it was good example, that technic is important
but perhaps more important is the music - for the drummer perhaps the rhythem.

That make think of one thing, when you watch educational video of Omar Hakim is how Natural thing come to him, he explain that when he meet Weather Report members he knew better how to play with them in lunch with them and talk with them then when rehearsal ( he don't say rehearsal are not important but he said that First it's the contact between person, Then music come)

Also about playing tricky rhythm i realize after trying to copy some rhythm that we don't play in the same way they play it, i mean Garibaldi on his video say that he'll try to play it again like it played it before but he don't play note by note the same rhytm, he have some basic to folow the song he accompagne but the aproach is more let it play the way it come, i believe we rather understand some basic of different drummers and try to apply them to music rather then copy note by note rhythm

Just my opinion

yes, I saw the video. his natural style is a little bit frustating for me sometimes.
and omar is extremly hard to copy for me.
I dont't try to say, I play like omar. that's not the point.
I want to say, that omars playing looks so easy and I listen to him and it seems,
that I understand what he is playing
and all sounds so natural until the first time, I try to play it by myself.

that's true. to copy note by note is not the best way.
but this special groove was tricky for me.
and to copy note by note was important for my understanding,
because I realized, something must be wrong ... ;-)

and I have to say, that I like to copy from other drummers
and after I understand, what is going on, I try to make my own thing with my new experiences.
but this groove from molusses run was really a nightmare for me.
10 years.
