I know working with a click is good. Sometimes in the studio I will not use a click, and I'm working with the artist for the first time. WE record the tune together so I have to have the artist in my phones to hear how the tune is going to go down. Sometimes the vocalist will energize the bridge and then lay back when they come back to the verse. I'm not just talking about Jazz. Maybe I have sugar ear and lean too much to what the singer is doing.
Has anyone had this experience?
