Thanx guys [again]
Sheez, not again...
It looks like this mutha will be hitting landfall somewhere between the Palm Beaches areas & north of...it's projected to move NW-ardly across the state [the E coast is generally in for it]...but as you know these things can make last minute changes on Spur Of The Moment windshifts, temperature, & weather pattern changes. It can increase in strength OR decrease as it moves across the state...
Looks like Orlando & surroundg regions might be gettin some more heavy winds, rains, & water as it moves NW inland...darn, Roy, hope it falls back to a tropical storm or less by then [which can happen upon moving further inland], as twice in 3 wks is a little much...we expect to get some ill effects AW, but not like the other regions...we will most likely luck out & be on the outer fringes again[?!]...*phew* [don't want to speak TOO soon]...
Should name the nasty "little" bugger "Virgil" or "Vince"...only the only way they'd actually harm ya is w "bustin' a beat" on yer tired ole' arse [& brain]...J/K [just to break up the tension]...
But seriously, thx again for the concern / well-wishes [as it is DEF no laughing matter for many]...
[What's up with the other HODhb bruthas in the southeast-&-centro[?]...]

Okay, okay... I'm breaking my silence.
Whew, this hurricane is whoopin Fla's butt!!! My townhouse has been boarded up since Wednesday night!!!
It's just lingering, like it's a tourist and it wants to see every last square mile and stop and take pictures.
It's been a while since my last post, but I have been perusing frequently, even seeing the sentiment poured out to us Floridians from Hurricane Charlie. You guys are great!
Charlie barely left a mark here in Jacksonville, but the slack it left behind Frances sure is picking it up, and then some.
I'm through with shore-duty and am back on sea-duty onboard a destroyer, and we left hurriedly and unnecessarily for Charlie, but waited for the last-minute for Frances, and as I type we are tied to the pier as tight as a Navy warship can be tied. The basin is just full of white caps, and the wind and rain is not leaving anything dry.
In the meantime, thanks for all your support and paryers for us Southeasters.
Peace...
Uno, (the other Roy)...

ps- Thanks to Steve and the Moderators for doing a wonderful job with this forum. It's a great place to go to get your mind off of things temporarily (also, when you have electricity...) I don't get to say that too often, but thanks.

Uno, what ship are you stationed on? How long are you out to sea?
Hats off to your commitment,........

Thanks all...
Fortunately this one didn't hit us anywhere near as hard as the last one. I was in Tampa (I did a wedding on Sat) but came home last night to find no more damage.
Hope all you other Florida-dwellers are ok!

Glad to hear it, Roy...like you needed another 'hit'...
This time around we got hit worse than Roy [altho last time he got it worse, for sure]...it was worse here this time than Charley...but I'm very thankful as it couldve potentially been a LOT worse...we were VERY fortunate in this way ...
But many folks around the state, esp on the coastal & inward areas after it landed were not nearly as fortunate...
Strong winds & rain here, some flooding, but not quite up to the house...just a third up the driveway [always wanted lakefront property, but not like that!]...spent the afternoon Tuesday clearing / cleaning debris [branches, limbs, twigs, leaves, papers, etc] out of the yards & street...could've been a LOT worse, as evidenced by the news around the state...we had no cable for 3 days, so in order to get local news coverage/updates, I unplugged the cable from the back of the TVs & clipped a stereo antenna to the insert via a metal electrical clip [aka 'roach clip' to those in the know ;c)]...we were very fortunate that we didn't lose power for any length of time, which was very surprising, as many family members & friends did here for several days still...
NOW keeping an eye on this 'Ivan individual'...
I think it's unanimous - we're over it already...but I'm 'counting my blessings' for sure...

Randy!!!
You're most welcome!!!
Someone's gotta protect my fella drummaz!!!

Answer to you q is:
USS O'Bannon, DD-987, homeported in Mayport, Florida.
As far as how long we'll be out to sea, I figured I'd give you guys a hint at what we do when hurricanes come our way - since we have YET ANOTHER ONE EN ROUTE AS I TYPE!!!
We basically head out and around the underside of the storm and follow it up ensuring it doesn't double back and smack us up with huge waves.
So anywhere from 2 to 5 days, depending on the severity and speed.
So pray that hurricane Jeanne won't do too much, but it's projected path would have you thinking otherwise.
Talk to you all soon.
Ciao for now
