I just got home from the show. There were a couple of HUGE high points for me. First of all, let me say that smooth jazz artist Rick Braun KILLS on trumpet. I'm not a fan of his popular music at all, but he was INCREDIBLE. Totally unexpected. Brandon Fields always KILLS on sax. David and Alphonso were solid.
It seems like Simon was still recovering from the massive Toto world tour because his singles weren't as on as usual, but he was still great.
I think the best part of the evening was the fact that Virgil was sitting in the back hanging out sporting a full beard! All I can say is that beard made his face look even SMALLER!
Anyway, if you couldn't make it, I'm sure there will be plenty of others, especially as we approach the NAMM jam shows.

So i was not able to make the gig lastnight and wished I had but, the day was not a wash.
I ended up spending most of the morning and afternoon with my friend Troy Lucketta (Tesla), when I got there I had a surprise in store, Chris Slade (The Firm, AC/DC) had spent the night........
What a blast we had, I had brung over some vintage Jeff Porcaro video and Vinnie so the 3 of us geeked out and then went into the studio and triple drummed until I had to leave for my gig......
Then I look out at my gig and there they are! Came to hang before going to see Scott Rockenfield whom was in town with Queensryche.
What a day

Watch out for JDouglee. He'll be hanging out with the Country Bears eating Potato Salad with the Creature! Randy, we missed ya! Sorry you couldn't make it last night. How did the gig go? Anyway, as LADanny said, all the players are amazing. Simon had a kit reminiscent of Tony William's set. Two toms up top(not as big as Tony's though), a couple of large rides and crashes and three floor toms. I dug the music but I really miss Carlos on these kind of gigs!

I can certainly understand being fatigued aft comin home fr a tour like that...
...but maybe it was because of Virg sittin' in da back ....

Or maybe it was being tired from mixing the new Planet X CD for 8 hours, TRYING to find space for each part! Simon mentioned that he's engineering the latest CD and the fact that it was so hard to make each instrument sit in it's own place. I don't know about you, but I don't think I would have ANY energy after mixing Planet X for 8 hours in a row!!

Agreed.
OK -
A] Toto tour;
B] Virg sittin in the back at your 'fusion-rock' gig;
C] mixing Virg, Tony, & LaRue[?] for over 8 hrs. a day for x amt. of days -
- yeah, I'd be in a daze too [or in musician's heaven - it must be a real treat to be surrouinded by players of their calibre - all those guys are timing/rhythmic masters in their field (duh)]

...And not to forget the coming Toto DVD that he's mixing. But maybe that one is done by now.
Wonder if that'll be worth buying.
