Hello all @HOD,

i'm new to this site and just wanted to say, great threads!

it seems as though this is a site that loves to share their insights on gear, musicians, and music.

sooo, i was wondering what you all thought about this electronic kit. i've read small snippets of thought from modern drummer yet never read a full review on these kits. i believe this kit comes with a rack system, v-cymbal type pads, and hi hat stand, kick pedal and a drum throne all for around 1,500.00! do you think this is to spendy?

basically, all i need is a kit to practice in the evenings and to augment my acoustic kit with a few pads here and there when i play live. so sorry for the long post, and any advice / insights would be greatly appreciated!

Since where talkin about Edrums here I was also wondering what everybody thinks between Roland V-drum pads or Hart Pads?

Whats the best module to plug in all the pads if I want to use my own sounds to trigger? I saw that some use this really high prices Akri sampler.

I have the DT Express II. I like it a lot. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Ya I got the dtxpress II also. I checked out #III in the store quickly, and it didn't look like too much has changed. If you want something cheap to bang on for an hour a night, then go for it. If you plan on using it live, you might want something a little higher end cause the sounds aren't the greatest, and the pads do wear out your arms after a while.

I have to disagree with Hanayalator just a bit.

I think the sounds are actually pretty good. Of course, it isn't an acoustic set. But that said, I think they do a pretty good job. Remember, you can fool around with all of the sounds -- changing attack, decay, latency, reverb, etc. etc. That makes huge difference. Plus, you can run it through your computer and access thousands of voices.

Also, as far as wear and tear on you. It is true that they aren't as forgiving as regular pads. But, remember you do not have to play them as hard as you do an acoustic set. If you play them a bit more gently, I don't think you will feel any negative consequences. But don't bang them.

Of course, each person has his/her own experience, and I respect that. Still, I'm glad I have them -- I can practice significantly more than I could with an acoustic set. So . . .

I see your point, MRhet. Furthermore, i had no idea you could download more sounds. where can i go to get those? internet? GC?

i found this place on-line called peeler drum center. they have the best deal so far, on this kit. the special edition version for $1475.00 out the door, with shipping.

on the same subject, i just got done emailing andy vermiglio and he said that his v-drums has a tendency to delay in response. does this happen with the dtx?

thanks again,

gentlemen!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, you don't actually download into the brain, you just run it through your computer using any MIDI software -- there are thousands of voices out there.

i found this place on-line
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Can't say for sure -- I bought mine local and paid about $860 -- but that was a DXII. Have you tried Musicians Friend?
Musician's Friend

(adding this later -- I should say I have never actually bought from Musicians Friend so I can't personally vouch for them -- but they do seem to have good prices)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No -- not really. Plus you can you adjust all that. I have noticed some latency issues running through MIDI, but again I have been able to clear most of that. And frankly, I am convinced most of that is my computer soundcard which needs to be upgraded. But of course, you don't have to run it through MIDI. You can record audio into the computer without MIDI, or play live without the computer at all.

Thank you, MRhet & hanayalator. i think i will get this kit. my budget is only like 1500 bucks and i plan to just work on coordination and sticking / concepts and to play late in the evenings when my boy's asleep. and i plan to just augment my acoustic drums with just a few pads for like added effects. thanks again, fellas. forums

it seems the new 'special edition' has features like v-cymbals, curved rack and realistic hi hat stand like the the roland TD-10. and it comes with throne, kick pedal and hi hat stand! (all 7 series).

once again thank you! forums
