Check out Peters' ballad playing. I believe you played "Sweet Soul" and got slower every time until the gap between each crotchet was a day and a half!!
GOOD one, Dazz!
[BTW...gee, Chuch, you have a youthful glow about you (your pic)...] ;cp

I also use and love the VF Heritage Brushes. Highly recommend them!
Another brush I use to get a different sound is the VF Jazz Rake. It uses plastic bristles.
I've used the purple Vic Firth ones and the Clayton Cameron ones (from Regal Tip I think). They're one piece, a little longer, and they have a plastic cap on tht butt and a little metal bead for cymbals and stuff. Also, I've seen Joe LaBarbera use very thin wood brushes
(one piece) very well.
Vic Firth Herratige Brushes are probably the best, but I've been using some very thin bristled nylon brushes made by a company from Scotland called Flix. They make Flix Sticks, but their brushes are extremely light and ideal for recording and ballads where the sound of metal wire brushes is a little too harsh...

I use this old pair of ludwig brushes given to me by my teacher, Steve Fidyk. They're wire, of course, with a white, nicely-grippable coating. I dunno exactly what the model was called but they feel GREAT. I don't think they even make'em anymore but apparently everyone used them back in the day (Morello, Philly, etc.)
I've got a pair of the Regal Tip wire model with the black rubber coating on the handle. "Why?" you ask? Because that's what Dave Weckl recommended in his "Back to Basics" video, that's why!
I don't use brushes much, but I've had these for over 10 years, and I'm very comfortable with them (unlike my sticks, which I change about every three songs!) As Erskoman pointed out, different brushes have different balances and feels to them. I also like the round metal loop, as opposed to the bigger triangle.
I've got a pair of Vic Firth brushes with a white plastic handle (no coating). They are well made, and the brush part itself is very nice, but the overall feel is big and clumsy. Without the coating, you can't do some of the "tricks," such as forcing the handle against the rim of the snare drum for a fluttering effect.
For the "in between" stuff, I've got a pair of VF 505 Rutes that are AWESOME. Very similar to Regal Tip Blastiks, but much better, IMO. I use Pro-Mark Cool Rods and Hot Rods quite a bit, especially for quieter practice sessions with other musicians (e.g. acoustic guitar or "working out-some-new-material" type stuff).
I've got a pair of the original VF Rutes...they are well-made (like everything with the VF logo), but the handle is very thick and gives them a strange feel.
