Keith is one of the most awesomne drummers around, and I can't believe that some people diss him just for the way he holds his sticks..
The sheer musicality is what counts, and what Keith puts forth in that respect is a whole lot more than most of the people I've seen playing with a so called "correct" grip...
You have to realise that there is no such thing, the reality is that, whatever works musically and feels comfortable for you, should be the one rule to have when playing...(barring, of course, that you're not doing it in such a fashion so that you're hurting yourself and quite possibly others, ie band members + audience, in doing so..)
Wow I'm amazed. It's incredible to me that you don't think he grooves. When I listened to some of the Wayne Krantz samples off of Keith's page the groove was so deep and honest that I almost started crying. I seriously have not heard a drummer who hit me in the gut the way he has since I was a kid. Perhaps check out some of the music samples on his page. The stuff from the Wayne Krantz record with the green-ish cover knocks my d--- in the dirt.
Man this cat grooves like hell on Greenwich Mean. He reminds a bit of Adam Deitch. I love the real open sound of the kit and the darkness and dryness of his cymbal selection. This cat can play. Looks and technique aside this kids' got groove magnum! "Keep It In The Pocket" PT.
His groove is very similar to Purdie's or Marotta's.
And he's got a wicked left hand.
