Dear All

The Electronic Image presents 'Codec/x' specially commissioned and recent
work by 30 artists and musicians, based in north west UK. It has been
curated independently by artists Dave Griffiths and Nick Jordan, and aims
to promote collaboration and experimentation in sound and visual art.

CODEC/X features new digital films by 26 sonic investigators, artists and
composers from north-west England. These short, diverse works present
challenging and often humorous themes embedded to materials and processes -
including animation, performance, text, noise, concept, narrative, found
objects, tape and abstraction.

CODEC/X unpacks a playful list of new proposals and encourages discourse
about technology, materials and conventions in contemporary practice. The
artists explore tensions between perfection and instability; the minutiae
of spaces and moments; the inscription and abandonment of laws; creation of
light and time; complexity of language and meaning, and the architecture in
'intelligent' machines.

65 mins in length. Free.

4th February 2004 7.45 PM Stoke Film Theatre, College Road, Stoke On Trent.

The Electronic Image is regular screening space situated at the Stoke Film
Theatre in Stoke On Trent

The Next Electronic Image event is on Wednesday 4th of February 2004 at the Stoke Film Theatre, College Road, Stoke On Trent, 7.45pm

This screening is the first time that The Electronic Image presents a touring programme of work......

The Electronic Image Presents

CODEC/X
http://www.pharmakon.co.uk/codecx/

New British Video & Sound Art

Codec/x features specially commissioned and recent work by 30 artists and musicians, based in north west UK. It has been curated independently by artists Dave Griffiths and Nick Jordan, and aims to promote collaboration and experimentation in sound and visual art.

The curators have selected work that is diverse, with challenging and often humorous themes embedded to materials and processes - including animation, performance, text, noise, found objects, tape, and abstraction.

The DVD unpacks a playful list of new proposals and encourages discourse about technology, materials, and conventions in contemporary practice. The artists explore tensions between perfection & instability; the minutiae of spaces and moments; the inscription and abandonment of laws; creation of light and time; complexity of language and meaning, and the architecture in 'intelligent' machines.

Codec/x is a response to the growing movement of independent spaces and audiences from a variety of scenes: gallery screening, microcinema, experimental music, artist-curated events, and web streaming.

No Ground Processes and The Music Rooom Present

An Evening Instrumental Rock music, Noisy Electronics and Fried Visuals

Mountain Men Anonymous (From Wales)
Epic 45 (From England)
HL/Fickle (From Stoke)

Etc/ visual experimentation.

Thursday 26th February 2004 8.30pm onwards The Talbot Hotel, Stoke On Trent, UK

Mountain Men Anonymous
www.mountainmenanonymous.com
May 5, 1993
In Grants Pass, Oregon, in early May, Michael Kennedy tried to shoot a beer can off Anthony Roberts's head with a bow and arrow in what Roberts later described as an initiation rite for "Mountain Men Anonymous." Kennedy missed, and the arrow went through Roberts's right eye, penetrated eight inches of brain, and came within a millimeter of severing major blood vessels that would have caused instant death. Roberts never lost consciousness, was later fitted with a glass eye, and suffered no diminution of brain function from that which he had before the accident occurred.
Source: The Oregonian

No Really Mountain Men Anonymous will penetrate your soul with a sound that compares to acts like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, and Explosions in the Sky. Not heard of them well come to Stoke On Trent and witness a reinvention of rock music.

Epic 45
www.epic45.com
>From Stafford, The influences here range from the mellow ambience of bands such as Bark Psychosis & Labradford to the sonic experimentation of GYBE, Slint, & Hood, but blended together nicely into a sound all their own. Lots of Radio One airplay from Steve Lamacq & John Peel. Very very pretty & dreamy.

HL/Fickle
www.noground.co.uk/hl.html
Promoters take to the stage or artists start promoting hard to say with these 2. HL is currently experimenting with using live noise through mics and creating a soundtrack using the actual sound of the venue. Fickle is well taking cd glitches, delay, radio noise and ambience into a warmer field away from the more harsher reality?s of Merzbow and Yasunao Tone.

A Visual element will be provided by etc/ with other visuals by tbc artists.
