I love the Stones and Dead Flowers is a great song. But I don't think Ball and Chain is a "cover" or direct ripoff. You can definitely here the influence, and Mike probably got the riff from there. But to call it a direct copy is a stretch in my humble opinion.
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial">Here is a video of the Stones doing Dead Flowers live. Hard to tell, but I can hear B&C in there....Originally posted by Rollarocka:
The version of Guns Of Brixton I have is the version with his son singing...very very very poor quality...but hey, it's rare!
And the song Shame On Me was originally done by Ersel Hickey.....for those interested: I have ALL originals on covers ever played by SD, even the very very hard to get ones (eg. King Of Fools by Ed Bruce and Long Black Veil by Lefty Frizzel), also have ALL original recordings on the Under The Influence records...pretty bad ass!
BTW did you know Ball and Chain is some sort of a cover too...originally recorded by the Stones as Dead Flowers....check out that song! Talking about the Stones...I hate their boring version on Backstreet Girl!!!

Ah yes Jen I remember that night!
Johnny Cash-San Quentin is a kick ass cover,if someone dont have it let me know
JGoaten-
Who did "Monday Morning" originally? I found the Beck, Vedder and Ness version on the net and LOVE it!
thanxxx...
Russ,
as far as I know, it's full title is "If It's Monday Morning" and was written by Lee Hazelwood.
I'm not too familiar with his work but he also wrote "These Boot Were Made For Walkin'" and did duets with Nancy Sinatra amongst other during the 50's / 60's and 70's
Hope that helps.
John

Talkin' about The Clash: I'm going to spend my summer vacation in London - woohooo
JGoaten, do you have a copy of this one by chance - Blitzkrieg Bop (w/ the Offspring), cause I would really like to hear it.
