Okay, dude, I can respect your faith and your beliefs and I dig how its like an intoxicating drug... but "Most all religions use the Old testament"... Three, count them three (3) use portions, I said portions, of what Christains call the Old Testament. Did I mention three (3)? Let's count them, shall we... Christianity, Judaism, Islam. And the Torah and the Koran are not just the Old Testament without the sequel... They are fully realized texts on their own. In the Koran, Jesus is born in an oasis, no Joseph, and is a fully realized person at birth. I can't seem to find that anywhere in the Old Testament.
So, no, not "most all religions use the Old Testament"...
And, while I'm in a ranting mood (damn it, forgot to take my anti-rant meds again), if you're going to make comments that infer that your God is not against war, well, that's not the God I was raised on. Mine was the New Testament one. The peace and love your neighbor and the meek shall inherit the earth and turn the other cheek and Saul becomes Paul one. Your religion is based on the teachings of Paul and Jesus, not a warrior cult. Sheesh.

Python, this thread was not about a particular song or faith of a band member as you said. The topic was "what shitty band covered the song "untitled"?
Why is it that you think Mike is such a devout Christian, but not sure if he wants to show that side to his fans??? If he was such an adiment believer, wouldnt he be singing praises to the Lord, and damn proud of it, like John Maurer? Hes had plenty of interviews and addressed topics of being an inspiration to his fans. Dont you think he would have been singing praises to Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour and doing the Christian dance???

To someone whos been there, its obvious about songs like "untitled". Before I had a born again experience, I never even stoped to think what the song was about, and if I did, I never would have thought it was about such. But now its amaizing the content you find. Not in just one song, but majority of his songs.

I'm not sure what you mean by donig the christian dance. I do think he should not avoid the topic, and should pubically state his faith. To me I think God's using Mike in that "subtle" way (not crossing the line type thing), to reach kids and people otherwise unreachable. Without pushing, but pulling in the right direction. Social D's music has been great inspiriation in my life, and has helped me throught difficult times, and kept me heading in the right direction. Would I have continued to listen to social distortion if it was promoting evil and death crimes,etc. No. Its not the music to me thats most important, its the message behind it. And you put both of those together, and you have something special. People claim, yeah Mike has sung about drugs and alchol and all the bad parts, and even struggling with the idea there is "no god" (Bad Luck). But as you can see Mike is not the same as he was when he started. We have his full story in front of us. Much how God used the characters in the bible. The Bible presents its heroes truthfully with all of their faults and weaknesses. It does not glorify men as other religions do about their heroes. When you read the Bible, you realize that the people it speaks of have problems and do wrong just as we do. What made them great was that they trusted in God. One example is David. David is described as a man after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). Yet, David committed adultery (2 Samuel 11:1-5) and murder (2 Samuel 11:14-26). This could have been left out of Scripture to hide these details of David's life. But, God included these things.

Would we have learned as much about Mike if he never had a drinking problem, if he never had that bad side of his life? No we woudln't. Gods CLEARLY using Mike in this way to reach others.

1 Corinthians 1:27 (But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.)

I wish Mike would come forward more, but he might cross that fine line and not be able to reach others. But He has come forward in certain ways. The video "When the Angels Sing" they are playing behind the Cross and Jesus hanging from it. And the Cross is all in the video. So he has pulbically displayed Christ.

I feel he should be more forwarded about it, I dont know his reasons, I hope its not a money things, that hes afraid of backlash or loss of certain fans or sales. I dont think it is, I dont belive Mike to be one big on "money" or become obsessed with it. He stays very humble from his shows, about how you can have alot of money , but if you don't have love and family, you dont have nothing.

My guess is God is using him in that "subtle" way without crossing that line to continue to reach people. (Subtle means - So slight as to be difficult to detect or describe) To bring them in, and over time, the holy spirit starts working on them.

Only Mike can answer the question tho, I am just speculating what could be his reasoning.

I personaly would like to see him come forward just a little with it, but not overbearing at all. Just by putting Jesus into maybe a verus here and there (not just in video, but also words) , or even by just pubically stating his faith. But Continue to do what he does in the subtle way.

I think (DISCLAIMER: and let me reiterate this is only my personal view and I'm definately not saying this is absolutely what he meant- just my best guess) the implication is that all of this bad shit that happens to this guy is directly related to his negative outlook
and his closedmindedness to the idea of a God ties into that. Like that he (the character) dismisses that church or prayer is of any good to these people and in turn tells himself that nothing is ever gonna be of any good to him ...so his "Bad Luck" is really of his own making.

As far as lyrics that "make you think", I prefer just that bit of doubt, sometimes more. I like that we can disagree on what the songs mean, because, we all bring our own experiences to the songs, and they can mean different things to different people. To be honest, the fact that a Christian can point to all the deep meanings in Social D songs, yet we can argue over the point is good. These messages then get out to a much wider audience, and you are not just preaching to the choir. If Mike is a Christian, I would say he does more doing the music he does as opposed to switching to doing "Christian Rock", what ever that really is.

But then again, maybe his next solo album will be punk versions of old gospel tunes. (but I don't think it will be [img]tongue.gif[/img] but who knows )

Lyrics are there to be interpreted and if you take 10 people and ask them what their opinion is on song X, you'll most likely get 10 different interpretations...and that's great because everyone is getting something out of it for themselves...

I honestly think KoF should close this thread because
a) it was not about religion in the 1rst place but some shitty band that covered a SxDx song...
b) it's on the verge of turning completely absurd...
