Can you believe this thread got up to 100 posts? One of my two goals for this site is complete. The first was to get a lame thread to 100 posts, and the second is to get a certain person to never post here again. Here goes nothing. That is all.

Steve, I can respect what you are saying...I have never been racist though. My ex-husband was Mexican, as were my last 2 relationships before him. For crying out loud my married name was Alvarez! Also, my very first serious boyfriend in high school was Indian, his last name was Whitecotton. I guess the red brick building on our street has just soured me on illegal aliens, sometimes I forget that they are the extreme. There are two kinds, and I was referring to the kind that don't respect this country and expect everything to be handed to them. I'll admit sometimes I say shit a little hastily and it doesn't come out right and can easily be taken the wrong way - but who doesn't? Anybody that's ever spoken to me in person would tell you that I sound nothing like some of you percieve in these posts. But that's ok, I don't need to prove myself. I can, however, admit when I am wrong.

An example of the kind in the red brick building:

the other night one of the men was in the parking lot of Jons Supermarket and grabbed a pallet and tried to attack two women with it. Then he turned around and bashed it through the passenger side of this car's windshield, smashing it and almost killing the baby that was sitting in the car seat there. He tried to run back into the building to get away (the baby's father was chasing him) and he was tackled and slammed into the ground (by my boyfriend as we had gotten out of the car in our driveway at the moment he was running by with people chasing him). The people in that building do crap like that all the time, and the cops are always in front of that building for one reason or another. Now I know not everyone is like that, but they are the reason I said what I said. I didn't mean to generalize, I was just venting. I believe I didn't mention race either, just that they were illegals....everybody just assumed I was talking about Mexicans.

    2 drink minimum,

I have to say this, and ive said it before, you surprise me. Sometimes you say things that are so thought provoking and concrete and other times you act like a little kid. fortunately, the former is far more prevailing than the latter and i think for the most part a pretty good kid for your age. You are capable of debating better than most and you should highly consider the debate team in high school and college. I was never good enough for that, but always wished that i could. public speaking/debate is something that i envy in people. i can see why you have an army of clones. Most of them can only wish they could muster an intelligent post.

Here is my very humble and boring take on several of the subjects brought up on here.

first, i was born into a catholic family, but i honestly do not believe in god of any kind. However, in the recent 18 months, i have learned how to live a better life. I now choose to do things that i feel are common and morally right in the eyes of my peers and myself and not in the eyes of a god or a higher power. I am a recovering compulsive gambler. If you were around a few years ago on the old messageboard, i was reaching out for help and advice. I was a mess and a real prick. my life was in complete chaos and i lost everything because of my addiction to gambling. often times i felt hopeless and suicidal.

In the past year and a half, i moved in with my dying sick mother who has been stricken with cancer. her fight and her will to live has touched something in me that will never go away. I credit her for almost a year of "sobriety" and because of her, i try to live a moral life that i can be proud of and others can be envious of. My point is, i dont need a god or the written word to guide me. I live a proud life, i treat my peers, family, and friends with respect, i am dependable, honest, and trustworthy. And i do this because i feel its the right way to act. And as for Creation/evolution, i suggest everyone enroll in a physical anthropology class in your local college. Scientific remains and fossil records dont lie.

dont get me started on the indian casinos. I lost jobs, friends, and a good wife because of gambling. nonetheless, casinos is one of the only means that native americans can flourish. yea, the united states government gave them land or "reservations" but go to just about any indian land and you will see that its desolate, completely useless land that weeds practically cant grow on. If they cant rely on agriculture, what can they rely on? They need to support themselves, and in the mean time, it feeds those with a gambling addiction like me. IT will always be a catch 22. One problem feeds the next. and neither problem will go away.

As for the illegal aliens, i have to say, syckgirl, that i like you and i know that often times you are misunderstood and picked on like this is a kindergarten classroom. But i have to say that reading through your one post about how pissed you are about the illegal alien issue really disturbed me. I too thought that you sounded completely racist. dont get me wrong, we all have opinions and we all voice them here, but i think your generalizations are somewhat off the mark.

Case in point: I used to work at the Old Staples store at the corner of Bristol and MacCarther and working at the edge of santa ana, i dealt with mexicans all day long. Illegal or not, they were still very courtious, paying customers who were very pleasant to work with. Outside, there was this white kid who one day started hanging out outside and it soon became apparent that he was "homeless". he was very healthy looking, very talkative, and a pretty good looking guy. we offerend him a job several times and he always turned them down for reasons i never knew. but anyways, you go up the street a mile to the home depot and on a saturday morning, there are about 100 mexican young men loitering outside looking for odd jobs. I was always impressed because even though they may or may not be here "legally", they still have a tremendous work ethic and were eager for any kind of job they could get (like sinner so very well pointed out). now, what would piss me off is that on one hand, there were these men who woke at the crack of dawn, almost begging for any type of work they could muster, and on the other hand, there was this completely capable young white male who chose to beg for change instead of earning a living.

illegal immigrants come here for one reason, to live a better life, and isnt that what america stands for? The american dream?

Im sorry about your experience with your neighbors who spray graffiti, drop their trash, and disturb the neighborhood. all i have to say is that there are good respectful people, and there are menaces to society in all walks of life, all races, and in all neighborhoods. Your generalizations really disturbed me. I dont hate you and i dont feel sorry for you. I just feel you are wrong here.

o.k. i have to admit that i haven't read hardly any of the posts regarding this long debate, my opinion fluctuates because every situation is different some illegals trash our country and some are hard workers and help the economy (but legal residents do both also) my only pet peeve is that if you want to move to a different country to be a resident you should make the effort to learn their language/customs. it pisses me off to no end that from what i've seen people moving to this country for opportunity won't even bother learning a scrap of english. when i traveled europe i tried my hardest to learn at least the basic communication for each country (which was hard because i was in a different country every two weeks) but i thought that is would be disgustingly presumptuous of me to go over to a different country and expect them to cater to me, an english speaking person. but surprisingly enough i found that almost everyone there knew at least two or three other languages (english always being one of them) besides their native tongue, because there is so much travel between the countries that its almost like a requirement.
i don't know how true this is and i don't really know any of the statistic but i've heard it been said that english is becoming more and more if a second langue in this country and that is absolutely ridicules.

In Europe, they consider it rude if you speak to them in any language other than theirs, and in France sometimes they won't even answer you unless you address them in French. If you at least try to speak their language they are more apt to help you out and speak English to you. It would be presumptuous for any one to go to any country without first learning enough of that language to communicate with it's residents. Unless, of course, you are visiting relatives or something that can translate for you. I have yet to go to France to see my sister since she comes here so often (her husband is a pilot for Air France) but when I do get over there I'll have her to be my interpretor! Plus, I'll try to learn the basics in French like 'where's the bathroom' and 'how much?'!

I see what you're saying about Europe SickGirl, but a lot of people hit a lot of countries all at once and it would be impossible to learn all the different languages I would think. As far as United States is concerned, I completely agree that if you're living in a country, illegal or otherwise, you SHOULD ABSOLUTELY learn the language. It just seems like it would be hard to have much success if you can't speak the native language. That is all.

Jesus(We could close the border, but then rich white males would have less poor employees to exploit)
